ICEA LION GOODS IN TRANSIT INSURANCE

What is ICEA LION’s Goods in Transit (GIT) Insurance?

This cover provides insurance for your goods whilst on transit on road, rail or waterways within your specified geographical area. This is also known as inland transit insurance. This cover includes damage, destruction or accidental loss from natural and man-made occurrences for goods which belong to you or which you are responsible for. It can also offer liability protection during loading and unloading and temporary housing for your cargo whilst in transit. If you are using trucks and trains, this cover will be sufficient for you. In the event you are transporting goods via sea or air freight, then you will need to take up marine cargo insurance.

The Goods In Transit insurance kicks in from the time your goods are being loaded on to the transporting vehicle, trailer or wagon and stops once the goods are unloaded at your final destination. In the unfortunate event something goes wrong and your goods do not get to the intended destination, the policy extends to protect your goods as they are being loaded and transported onto the alternative means of transportation.

Goods in Transit (GIT) insurance is sometimes confused with Marine Cargo Insurance because of their similarity in offering protection for your goods during their transportation. Marine Cargo insurance is a form of Goods in Transit Insurance which specifically covers transportation of goods by sea, rail, road or air.
